Article Summary

Radicon's M, C, F and K Series offer four gearbox configurations for industrial power transmission applications.

The product families incorporate modular construction, standard motor compatibility and Radicon's patented Blue Bushing motor connection.

Many configurations offer dimensional replacement options for existing industrial gearmotors, while additional engineered solutions are available for applications requiring a specialized replacement.

Gearbox selection must account for torque, output speed, reduction ratio, mounting dimensions and operating conditions.

There are plenty of good industrial gearboxes on the market, but certain features deserve a closer look. Radicon's M, C, F and K Series have a few that I particularly like. Their patented Blue Bushing makes electric motor removal easier, the modular designs accommodate a wide range of applications, and many configurations can serve as drop-in replacements for existing gearboxes from other manufacturers. That's a lot of flexibility in four gearbox families.

Four Gearbox Designs, One Family

  • ›Series M: Inline Helical A compact, efficient inline design for conveyors, machinery and applications where the input and output need to share the same centerline.
  • ›Series C: Helical Worm A compact right angle gearbox for applications requiring speed reduction and a change in shaft direction.
  • ›Series F: Parallel Shaft Helical Designed for parallel shaft arrangements commonly found in conveyors, material handling and shaft mounted drives.
  • ›Series K: Helical Bevel An efficient right angle gearbox suited for industrial applications requiring higher torque and reliable power transmission.

The Blue Bushing

One feature I particularly like is Radicon's patented Blue Bushing. It helps prevent the motor shaft from seizing inside the gearbox, making motor removal much easier when the time comes. It's a small part that can save a lot of frustration. I wrote a separate article dedicated to the Blue Bushing if you'd like to see how it works and what makes it different.

Drop-In Replacements for Existing Gearboxes

Here's another reason Radicon is worth considering. Many of their M, C, F and K Series configurations are designed to interchange with existing industrial gearmotors, including certain SEW, NORD and other manufacturers' models. Radicon also offers engineered replacement solutions for applications where a standard catalog gearbox isn't an exact fit. That can mean replacing an existing gearbox without modifying mounting bases, shafts or surrounding equipment. Of course, not every gearbox is a direct interchange. Dimensions, ratios, torque ratings and mounting arrangements still need to be verified. But when a gearbox fails, the original manufacturer has a long lead time, or a model has been discontinued, having another option can make all the difference.

Standard Motors. Easier Maintenance.

Radicon's modular construction allows different ratios, mounting arrangements and motor configurations within these gearbox families. Depending on the configuration, the units accept standard NEMA and IEC electric motors. Another feature I like is the oil tight gearhead design, which allows motor removal without draining the gearbox lubricant. These are practical details that can make maintenance and replacement a lot more straightforward.

Stainless Steel Options Worth Exploring

Radicon also has stainless steel options associated with the M and K Series that deserve a closer look, particularly for applications where corrosion resistance is important. I'm going to cover those products separately, because their construction and applications deserve more attention than a quick mention here.

Worth a Closer Look

A gearbox still has to deliver the right torque, speed and service factor for the application. Those requirements always come first. But I also like paying attention to the details that make equipment easier to install, replace and maintain. That's what makes Radicon's M, C, F and K Series worth considering. If you have a gearbox that needs replacing or you're working on a new application, send me the model number and a few details about the equipment. Let's see what Radicon has available.
